Congratulations to Our Winning Photographers!

Thank you to all of those who came along to the opening of The Photo Democracy Summer Show last night. It was a very enjoyable evening and great to meet so many talented photographers. A huge congratulations to Michael Jackson, winner of The Chris Beetles Award and Damien Looney, winner of The Mentorship Award.

We are very pleased to say that the award has been a great success and we look forward to working with our newest artists to continue to supply the highest quality fine art photographic prints. Thank you once again to all of those who took part.

Michael Jackson

British born photographer Michael Jackson (1966) started photographing Poppit Sands in 2007. Now in its sixth ongoing year, the work at Poppit is not so much a project but an ongoing, never ending study of how far the artist can push a single idea. "With a subject like Poppit it deserves a long term study and a certain dedication. And with dedication comes images that are not easily won. Those are the images that I look for - the ones that move me forward." The work has earned three consecutive Finalist places in the Hasselblad Masters Award and has toured with the Hasselblad Masters on Tour exhibition around the world. The work has featured on CNN and the BBC as well as being published internationally in Lenswork and Silvershotz magazines.

Damien Looney

Irish professional photographer and audio technician Damien Looney (1977) has travelled the world, working in documentary and film production. His travels have given birth to a dynamic portfolio of portraiture, documentary and landscape photography.

Travelling across Afghanistan in a military helicopter during the early hours of the morning, just before sunrise, photographer Damien Looney managed to capture the country's mystical desert landscape in a unique and contemporary manner.

"The unfortunate thing about getting the opportunity to see Afghanistan like this is knowing that it will always be known as a hostile, war torn country and not the incredibly beautiful, other worldly country that it really is. When seen from the air, it’s unlike any other place I know of."

and finally...

Congratulations to the 20 winning photographers who's work is currently on show at Chris Beetles Fine Photographs gallery, London and available to buy from photodemocracy.com

The Photo Democracy Summer show will be on display until 17 August, opening times are 10-5.30pm, Mon-Sat.

Regards,
