Ricardo Lebres
‘Apatia III’
‘I love film photography. I really don’t have anything else relevant to say about me. I would hope that my photographs could say something more.’
We chose Lebre’s image entitled ‘Apatia III’ as he captured a truely tranquil landscape, which is what made his image so beautiful and almost dream like. The relfection of the buildings also adds another appealing visual aspect, that drew us to his photograph more.
Congratulations and thank you again to Ricardo Lebres for entering his excellent photographs and for becoming September’s featured photographer. Don’t forget to take a look at the interview with Lebres:
1. How did you get into Photography?
I’ve been in touch with photography since I can remember but mostly with an utility purpose. It was only a couple of years ago that a friend showed me film photography. More than the technical part I was shown a different way to see what’s around us, the importance of looking up and the possibility of taking mental images. Since then photography became a necessity, trying to find that one image that makes me happy. Going through the whole process.
2. Why film?
Nowadays I shoot 100% film. I started with my father’s camera, an Olympus OM-1 (the camera I used to shoot the photo you selected) with light leaks and a broken light meter. I like the raw look of my photo, the imperfections and the grain. Most of all, it’s what makes me happy.
3. What do you most enjoy shooting? And where?
I enjoy getting lost with my camera in places I’ve never been before. Or rediscovering places I thought I knew well through the viewfinder. For me, it’s more about the process than the final result.
4. Where and when was the photograph taken?
March 2011, Romania.
5. Where are you based?
Lisbon, Portugal.
